See Some of our Favourite Journeys

We know Norway like our own back pockets, here are some of our personal favourites - guaranteed experiences out of the ordinary.

Experiencing what matters by going slow

Since moving to Norway from the UK in 2016, Danny has truly learned to appreciate Norway as the land of 'kos' - a truly special, yet intangible concept.

We all strive to find new meaning in the new normal and for Danny travelling slow is the perfect way to take stock, embrace 'kos' and appreciate what is around him.

Embark on cultural and culinary experiences

Thanks to the Scandinavian food revolution of the last few years, traditional dishes and their ingredients are back, looking cooler and tasting fresher than ever. Did you know that as of September 2022, Norway has 14 restaurants with a total of 17 stars in the Michelin guide? Or that Norwegians drink the most coffee in the world (after the Finns)?

Our food heritage is a part of our cultural identity and a valuable factor in empowering and enabling participation in Norwegian society. Eating and drinking your way through Norway is the perfect Foodie-adventure.

Experience the realm of Norwegian folklore

Norway has a long and diverse history which can be found in the small villages and nature along the coast and countryside. Mari grew up in Beitostølen, close to Skåbu – Norway’s oldest village (and the highest settlement in Northern Europe). Here our guests can immerse themselves in the realm of Norwegian folklore while staying at an incredible family mountain lodge with an excellent kitchen, warm atmosphere and modern facilities.

"I cannot recommend Up Norway highly enough.  Our request for a 12-day multi-generational tour (72 year old grandfather, 40 year old daughter, and two grandsons - 8 and 10 years of age) was a challenge.  We asked for more adventure and less history (for the grandkids), culinary specialties (for the adults),  and accommodations ranging from very nice to somewhat primitive (for all of us).  The itinerary that Kristin and Henriette put together was awesome and met all our expectations. Adventure - hiking tours in Aalesund and Lovund Island, rib boat excursion in Saltstraumen. Culinary - exquisite typical Norwegian meals in Flam and Lovund Island (2). Accommodations - everything from 5-star hotels to domed bubble tents in a forest. Sightseeing - ferries up two major fiords, puffin colony on Lovund Island, Analsnes to Dombas train ride through a spectacular valley, crossing the Arctic Circle on train, overnight cruise from Bergen to Aelsund. Up Norway definitely works very hard to create the perfect tour based on the customer's desires - and in our case they did a magnificent job.  Our 12-day tour will be a lasting memory for all of us.  Without the guidance from Kristin, we would probably never have visited Aalesund or Lovund Island - two of the highlights of our tour.  Fortunately, we spent two nights in each of these places and would definitely return on any future trips.  Similarly, we would never have found the domed tent site in Straumen Gard, just outside Mo I Rana.  Our boys loved it.  It was the epitome of "glamping".  We learned from the proprietor that Kristan came to Straumen Gard for the sole purpose of checking it out before recommending it to us.  Queen sized bed, wood burning stove, and sitting area - with dinner and breakfast provided by the wonderful hosts.  It was amazing!  We can't thank you enough.

"The Up Norway team is fantastic! We took a multi-generation trip (a mom + a grandma +25-yr old) to Scandanavia, but only had 7 days in Norway. I usually plan all travel myself, but I wanted help from the experts as knew nothing about Norway, and Up Norway came highly recommended by friends, so we let them plan 100% of that part of our trip. I AM SO GLAD WE DID! From the hotels they chose, to the gorgeous train ride, to a privately guided hike they arranged in the heart of the fjords, everything was pure perfection. They also had an easy to use app, with the most thorough itinerary, instructions and historical information I've ever seen (and I work in travel). There were a lot of train/ferry/car service/another ferry/etc. arrangements, and knowing exactly how to transfer, how to walk to your hotel, even what side of the train (open seating) had the best views, was so appreciated and made the entire trip just seamless. Everyone could access the app and read all the "about this place," "what to see" and "where to eat" information. During the planning process, we had several changes, and they were always happy to make adjustments. In the heart of the fjord, we needed an additional room but the hotel was sold out but they miraculously came up with the perfect solution (found a room that had 2br and shared a bath)! Our primary contacts were Karin and Danny, but several others at the agency were always responding to questions as well. Really impressed with their professionalism, knowledge and attitudes. I HIGHLY recommend you trust them with YOUR trip too!!

This agency is super professional, very knowledgable about Norwegian local insiders (spots, hotels and guides) and always there to help you with everything you need as a traveller. I highly recommend Up Norway if you want to spend an unforgettable time in Norway :)
