The Discovery Route

The perfect endeavour for an active holiday with meaning

What is The Discovery Route?

In the 1880s the British travel agency Thomas Cook decided to create a journey through the spectacular Norwegian landscape of mountains, glaciers, crystal clear rivers, roaring waterfalls and pristine fjord - truly fit for the upper-class English gentleman or lady.

The best part of this route to this day is the wild and unspoilt nature. This is thanks to sustainable developments in the area, like hydroelectric power plants. The beautiful scenery and spectacular cliff-edge landmarks Trolltunga (Troll's Tongue) and Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) are landmarks Norwegians are proud of and wish to preserve for all future generations of the ‘Discovery Route’ travellers.

A hundred years ago travellers came by horse and carriage, today the route can be taken with a private chauffeur or driving your own electric Tesla, either as a one-way route or a round trip starting and ending in Bergen or Stavanger. On your way, you will be travelling on Scenic Route Ryfylke and Scenic Route Hardanger. Get ready for unforgettable adventures and activities among towering mountains, deep fjords and endless waterfalls.
