Experience the hair-raising Trolltunga (Troll’s Tongue) rock formation, overlooking a panoramic view of Norway's fjord landscape, in combination with two historical hotels, Utne Hotel and Hotel Ullensvang. A journey that allows you to experience the dramatic scenery of Western Norway, local cuisine and unique history. Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular landmarks in Norway. The rock juts out horizontally about 1100 metres above sea level, and around 700 metres above lake Ringedalsvatnet. The view is breathtaking. 

Together with Trolltunga Active, we invite you to experience a sunset and sunrise at Trolltunga while camping overnight. Experienced guides will lead you to and from Trolltunga over two days, set up your tent and cook dinner and breakfast. A unique wilderness experience, a magical sunset and sunrise with stunning views of the Ringedalen lake and the Folgefonna glacier. 

Season: Itinerary as described below is available May/June to November. (Guided hikes on skis and snowshoes available March–May). Duration: 4 days/3 nights. Can be extended with additional days in idyllic Hardanger.

Alternative:
 The Trolltunga hike can also be done in one day as a via Ferrata experience (3–4 hours).

DAY 1: the heart of hardanger

Historical Hotel Experience in Orchard Country
Up Norway will help plan your trip to Hardanger, an idyllic village located 115 km from Bergen. Start your active adventure at the beautiful Utne Hotel in the heart of Hardanger. Utne Hotel is one of Norway’s oldest and is run by some of the most charming hosts in the land, Kjetil & Bente. Visit Agatunet and Hardanger Folk Museum for an introduction to the local culture, try the local cider, and enjoy an excellent meal before setting out for Trolltunga.

DAY 2: sunset at trolltunga

Sunset at Trolltunga; 10 km hike, approx. 5 hours
At breakfast, you will make your own 'matpakke' (lunch pack) and be provided with a map and instructions before leaving.

The drive to the starting point is approximately an hour, and your Trolltunga guides will meet you on arrival. The hike is demanding, as it leads through high mountains with a total ascent of about 900 metres. Today's hike ends at Trolltunga, where tents and outdoor dinner will be prepared.

DAY 3: Trolltunga to ullensvang

Sunrise at Trolltunga and a swim in an 88-metre pool
Imagine breakfast in the warmth of an early morning sunrise, while having Trolltunga almost entirely to yourself. When you are ready to drag yourself away, your guide will lead you safely back down.

Continue on a 40-minute drive to Lofthus and Hotel Ullensvang; another historical pearl of a hotel. Enjoy the heated indoor and outdoor pools; the perfect relaxation after a long day in the mountains. Go rowing in a traditional wooden boat on the Hardanger fjord, and enjoy a well-deserved dinner.
