Manshausen is a world of its own, situated in the coastal area of Steigen, one and a half hours by speedboat from Bodø (or alternatively three and a half hours’ drive). It is also a dream realized by polar explorer Børge Outland, who aims to make this magical place climate-neutral by 2021. Once an important trading post, the area now represents a unique destination for activities such as fishing, kayaking, diving, cycling and climbing, with hundreds of small islands, white sandy beaches and spectacular mountains. The Manshausen huts have received international acclaim for their unique design and dramatic setting. This is the perfect place for a true coastal adventure.

Season: Itinerary described below is available April to November. (Ski and sail packages available in winter.) Duration 4 days. Can be combined with a trip to the Lofoten islands and/or an experience on the mainland close to Bodø and Saltstraumen – the world's strongest tidal current.

DAY 1: BODØ – MANSHAUSEN

Speedboat transfer to Nordskot coastal village
Utter tranquillity is the most striking feature of the small village of Nordskot in Steigen. Enjoy the panoramic sea and mountain views from your cabin and unwind in the sauna or outdoor hot tub. At Manshausen, you will sample fresh seafood, local produce, and be regaled with the adventures of one of Norway's most celebrated explorers (and the founder of Manshausen), Børge Ousland. Your hosts at Manshausen will help you plan the details of your stay according to mood and weather.

DAY 2: Coastal adventures

Angling and Time to Just Be
Fish has always been an important part of the Manshausen story. Go fishing with your own skipper to catch halibut, cod, pollock and mackerel, depending on the season. Spend the afternoon combing the shore at your own pace.

Activities are weather dependent, but fear not: watching a storm from the safe environment of your sea cabin is an awesome attraction in itself.

DAY 3: Hike the mountains

Walk, Hike or Climb – With or Without a Guide
The surrounding area offers great hikes for all skill and ability levels. Trips range from easy strolls on the islands Måløya and Grøtøya to spectacular and breathtaking ridges and mountain passes. The troll cave, Resshola, is a short walk away. The red granite cliffs at Nordskot offer superb rock-climbing opportunities. The Manshausen team will help choose a route that suits you.

There are also plenty of diving and snorkeling options in the surrounding clear waters.
